Postdoctoral Fellow Wanted
Postdoctoral fellowship opportunity in Department of Psychiatry at UCSD
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellowship position in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego to conduct clinical and translational research on neuroimaging-guided transcranial brain stimulation. We seek a highly motivated individual to join our multidisciplinary team in the Human Performance Optimization Lab, led by Dr. Greg Appelbaum and the UCSD Interventional Psychiatry Program, led by Dr. Jeff Daskalakis. Our collaboration seeks to innovate more potent noninvasive brain stimulation approaches to treat mental illness and neurological disorders, and to improve learning and rehabilitation. Studies are based on the identification of healthy and pathological brain function related to cognition and mood with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and electroencephalography (EEG), and the development and testing of circuit-based neuromodulation treatments with TMS and other stimulation modalities.
A highly qualified postdoctoral fellow is sought to contribute to all aspects of the research process including conducting studies and clinical trials, analysis of behavioral, fMRI, EEG and TMS data, authoring of published articles, grant writing, and the mentoring and supervision of students and research assistants.
Applicants must have: (a) a doctoral degree in psychology, psychiatry, cognitive neuroscience, or a related field by the start date; (b) a strong potential for a career in cognitive or clinically relevant research; and (c) high competence with neuroimaging (fMRI), neurostimulation (TMS), clinical trials, and statistical techniques. Attention to detail, strong quantitative skills, and the ability to work in team-based environment are of top importance.
This position comes with full benefits through the University of California, San Diego. Salary is based on NIH postdoc pay scales (https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/research/funding/general/nrsa-fund-guide). The initial appointment is for one year, with the opportunity of renewal for additional years. Review of candidates will start immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. The position is available immediately and applicants must be willing to live in San Diego CA, or the surrounding area.
To apply for the position please send an email to Dr. Greg Appelbaum (greg@health.ucsd.edu), with a current CV, a letter of interest with the expected date of availability, and the names and contact information for at least three references. Informal inquiry and questions are welcome via email.
