Short Biography
Katie is a graduate student in the Joint Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at SDSU and UC San Diego. She received a B.A. and M.A. in Psychological Science from California State University San Marcos. Following graduation, she joined the Interventional Psychiatry Program at UC San Diego as a clinical research coordinator. Here, she worked under the supervision of Drs. Greg Appelbaum, Jeff Daskalakis, and Cory Weissman across clinical trials investigating different forms of neuromodulation, like rTMS and ECT, for treatment resistant depression, bipolar disorder, and suicidality.
Katie has continued her work under Dr. Appelbaum’s mentorship in Optilab matriculating into the 2025 JDP program. Her areas of interest focus on the therapeutic potential of neuromodulation techniques, including transcranial magnetic stimulation, for treating individuals with MDD and comorbid psychiatric conditions. She is particularly interested in identifying neural biomarkers that improve diagnostic accuracy and predict treatment response to optimize care pathways.
