Short Biography
Carter is a Data Science MS student at UC San Diego's Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute and a research assistant in Dr. Greg Appelbaum's OptiLab. He received a BS in Data Science and Statistics from UC Santa Barbara, then joined UC San Diego Athletics, first as an intern and now as an Athletic Performance Data Scientist. There he builds data pipelines, maintains athlete management system integrations, and develops performance dashboards for coaches and sports science staff.
In the lab, he is helping launch this year's iteration of the Baseball and Softball Vision Study, which will use vision training tools and WIN Reality VR to examine how visual and perceptual skills relate to performance at the plate. His broader research interests include injury risk modeling, training load management, and force plate biomechanics.
Outside of school, Carter enjoys cooking, listening to house music, and traveling, usually with his plans built around finding exciting new foods to try. A San Diego native and Mission Bay High School alum, he is also a loyal (and long-suffering) Chargers fan.
