Suppliers of Telecommunication services lose up to 25 billion Euros every year!

Fighting fraud > Telecommunications

Telecommunications fraud is a billion dollar business; it is estimated that between 20 and 25 billion Euros are lost every year, which represents between 3% and 8% of telecommunications services providers' entire income. Suppliers are targeted by individual fraudsters, taking advantages of security loopholes, as well as highly organised criminal associations.

SIM box fraud

SIM box type fraud is committed through unauthorised use of GSM gateways that the fraudsters use to circumvent the international traffic transfer points, and thereby incur high losses upon telecommunication services providers. The phone calls appear to originate and end in the same network, which enables SIM box providers to offer much cheaper calling rates than network owners, who therefore face unfair competition.

IP theft

According to International Engineering Consortium, IP theft is one of the most common types of fraud in the telecommunications sector. If a fraudster steals an IP from a telecommunications services user, he gains unauthorised access to numerous services. All these services will be charged to the IP owner, who will know nothing of the fraud, until he receives a receipt for services rendered. By that time it is usually too late, as the fraudster will have most likely disappeared into thin air.

Telecommunication services providers can fight fraud with fraud management systems. These will conduct an analysis of all the transactions and warn them about the suspicious cases. Thereby they will cut their losses, protect their company from lawsuits and gain the confidence of their new and existing clients.
